Walking around downtown Cairns looking for a pair of emergency sandals since mine had just broken.

Our Ford car rental parked in Cairns

Our affordable hotel in Cairns. Small and not terribly luxurious, but we couldn't beat the price!

Our snug little room and our not-crazy-comfortable single beds

The barrier reef island resort of Green Island where we spent the night for the rock bottom price of US$500!

Our rather swanky room!

Twin beds for me and my syster

Our room with the very nice bath in the center rear

Standing upon the Green Island dock waiting for another ferry to take us further into the Pacific for snorkeling and diving, my hat blew right off my head!

There goes $30! Disappointingly, no-one volunteered to jump into the ocean to salvage it for me! ;-}
I would have happily done so but A) didn't see a ladder to get back up on the dock with, and B) I didn't wanna get run over by the ferry.

Low tide pulling the ocean away from Green Island and exposing underwater rocks

Coral rocks exposed on Green Island as low tide pulls the Pacific back into its watery depths

Taking the ferry further offshore, well past Green Island out to another reef where we went snorkeling and diving.

See ya later, Green Island!

Amy and me looking forward to snorkeling and diving!

Above and below: Amy trying to get airborne on the ferry as it lurches over swells in the ocean

Passing by a bird covered dock on our way to our final anchoring spot in the middle of the ocean

Floating oceanic dock where we ate lunch, went snorkeling and enjoyed some diving.

A little info on the Great Adventures dock

Amy and I with our semi-certifications proving that we went semi-diving!

The rope you hold onto as you initially descend on the dive.
BELOW: pictures from a defective Kodak underwater camera. Enjoy!

Aiming an underwater camera while diving and trying to breathe and pop your years at the same time isn't as easy as it sounds!

Award winning underwater sea life photography!

A giant clam

The best shot of the lot!

Subaquatic autophotographic experimentations

The photographer videoing and photographing us. . . being followed by a rather friendly giant fish that accompanied us on our dive.

National Geographic, is that you calling me? I'll sell the rights to this picture if the price is right!

Amy walking out of the island canopy onto the white sands and morning sun of Green Island

Morning on the western side of Green Island with the mainland of Australia off in the distance

A spine of exposed coral at the water's edge

Searching the morning waters for breakfast

Breakfast is never more than one peck in the water away

Gotta love the modern world: floating plastic that won't biodegrade and will pollute the planet for thousands of years
To learn more about this plastic mess, I encourage you to read the book "The World Without Us" by Alan Weisman

Me with toothpaste on my lips looking at an interesting shell encased something or another

The southern end of Green Island

A very lovely morning

. . . not an offence to the birds, I'm sure. . .

Up close with a crocodile that just ate a big fat piece of meat. . . looking over my way. . .

A sharp toothed crocodile looking for a little sun

Look at that snout and those teeth! YOUCH!!!

Dinosaurs incarnate

A belly big enough for a. . . human?!?

The shallow dock waters of Green Island

Standing on the dock waiting for our lift back to Cairns with my AU$3 emergency flip flops

Pseudo diving over the edge of the dock to swim back to the mainland

See ya Green Island! Hope to come back again one day!
